25 Random Facts About Melissa

If you're flipping through my blog and have not a clue about me, well i hope these few points can help you get to know me a little better :)
  1. I was born in Toronto, Canada. at the age of 3, my family and i moved to Malaysia to stay for good  because of family back in KL and ever since then we have never gone back. if i had a choice i probably would wanna stay put in Canada only because it's voted one of the safest countries in the world, it's obviously a beautiful country, clean, i get to lay down on clean grass and i would have a genuine canadian accent by now *pfft* LOL... but thinking about the family and friends i've got to meet and love here in Malaysia, i wouldn't change a thing.
  2. I hate heaps of thick salad sauce on my salad, what's the point of eating a healthy dish when you smack on a pile of creamy sauce on top.. just the thought of it makes me wanna hurl. a touch of italian/balsamic dressing will do!
  3. For the past 8 months, pole fitness has invaded my fitness life and it has done marvelous things for my body. it hasn't been long enough but i'm pretty proud of myself for taking up this challenge and whatever i have archived so far. the only downfall are the injuries but that just needs time to heal and it's back to the pole :) can't give up, won't give up!

  7. FRUITS ARE MY BEST FRIENDS!
  8. I love sour drinks.. and soups! hot and sour szechuan soup :D OMG CRAVING LIAOS.

  15. I'm a sensitive person... so think twice before you say something.. unless you seek for war.
  16. Melissa Tan May Ling that's me :D
  17. I work as an GX instructor at gyms :D i teach Body Combat, SH'BAM and Zumba! gimme a ring if you need one ;)
  18. Dance is Me. nuff said.
  19. My dream is to live in a white country. one day :)
  20. Always up for a spontaneous adventure!

The Met KL : Misspopsasa's makeover

The last time i got my hair colored was right before flying to Sydney for a short vacation, which was in mid december. loved my purple hair, it was vibrant and rich! unfortunately the color never can last long especially when i need to frequently wash it due to my job. i know it isn't healthy to keep coloring it almost every month but i really can't stand the sight of dull looking hair.

Chinese new year was just around the corner, 2 days to be exact! i assumed that most saloons would probably have been fully booked but i took a chance and tried my luck! no surprise, my usual saloon was of course fully booked. and well, google to the rescue it was! probably the best invention EVER. so anyway i got to discover a few highly recommended hair saloons around KL. The Met KL caught my eye, especially when the blogger specifically mentioned that their hair color is very lasting. gave them a call and got my spot for the next day!

Their outlet is located right next to Park Royal Hotel in KL right across from Sungai Wang.

Teng who is their color technician suggested i should get a hair cut and i couldn't agree more, can't even remember the last time i got a haircut.. she brought Chuan, the hair stylist to see what magic he could do to recreate my look. i think he is probably a mind reader because what he suggested was what i've always wanted! basically he segmented my hair, top short and bottom long. that creates more volume and sassiness. i don't normally tie my hair up whenever i teach dance so it will have loads of movement without really covering my entire face.. "now you see me, now you don't" kinda feel ;)

Chuan's very passionate at his hair cutting, you can see it as he takes his time and sees through all the details.

Teng came back to discuss the coloring and she suggested Copper. only red base colors are allowed for my hair because due to my previous coloring, the red color hasn't faded enough. Red and Purple is out of the question cause i wanted a change..

so.. COPPER? REALLY?

the first thing that came to my mind was that i might look very "lala" in it and i actually have tried copper years back and it wasn't a good experience, i'll just leave it as that.

after much contemplation, COPPER IT WAS!

Let the highlights begin...

I also got my hair treatment done after the coloring for longer lasting color, moisture and all that good stuff! the guy who proceed with my hair treatment gave me an ultimate explanation about the steps and products he was applying on my hair. impressed i was :)

The amazing results! fell in love with the color, it really does POP! especially under the sunlight as you can see below :)

Teng cheekily said i looked like an anime character because my eyebrows were too dark for my hair color, so i started rubbing off the eyebrow make up i had on!! HAHAHA! :(

Thank you Teng and Chuan for the really cool makeover! Love it :) i will be back soon!

I..

..miss

1. my perfectly healthy right ankle which i took for granted when i was staring at my phone instead of carefully walking down the stairs. it hasn't healed completely (it's already been 2 months) and therefore restricting my movement whenever i dance or pole. well that sucks, thanks a lot melissa.

2. my friends. the happy bunch who takes my sorrows or sadness away instantaneously with their words of encouragement and presence. they just make everything better. not forgetting the maximum fun we never fail to have together. they're my happy pill.

3. how i used to attend master bathi's kickboxing classes almost every evening. can never forget the intensive training drills, my kind of ecstasy. due to instructing classes, i can't seem to fit it into my schedule anymore.

4. the people who chose to leave. i know it would be silly for me to miss people who choose to break a friendship or lose contact but it's ok to miss the good ole times, no?

5. Finn Hudson in Glee.. *tears start to form* it isn't the same anymore which is why i don't follow their episodes religiously.

6. movie dates with mom. mommy! ya hear? we should go on one asap k?

7. Sydney..period

Vintage Glam Project

I'm in the midst of revamping my entire room and i really can't wait for it to be completed! ever since i moved into this house donkey years ago my hasn't change, not even a fresh coat of paint, only modifications here and there. well current progress is at 50%. most importantly right now is for me to find a suitable dresser and a big mirror (oh-so crucial). this project has been delayed for months, i could even say a year? yeah i'm miss procrastinator, big time. i've finally realized that your room really makes an impact on your daily life, the fact that it's the first thing you see when you open your eyes really gives you the reason to have it look decent enough to start your day feeing good.. make sense? the best thing about this little project of mine is that it allows me to be the shoes of an interior designer and guess what? it ain't easy! now i understand why people pay so much for just proposed designs for rooms and houses alone. so if you're a color scheme matching genius and incredibly creative, an interior designer as a career path is something to think about!

So far my room really does oozes out my personality, the theme is Vintage Glam. i didn't take long to figure out what kind of ambience i had want to live in because i have always loved all the vintage-y and rustic looking deco we have been seeing these days in cute little cafes and shops! every piece has its own story to tell, basically it's Unique and full of character. the second mix is Glam, how could i ever leave this element out? Bright, Bold and Elaborate. that touch of glamour will bring the room to live! it definitely shouldn't be overdone but it should stand out! Stand out by being subtle. the extra Shine makes the difference..

No pictures of my progress just yet! maybe in the next post :) so stay tuned!

Neo Tamarind : 21st Birthday Part 2

It never ends with just one birthday party! two is always better than one :)

Mommy made reservations for dinner at Neo Tamarind, a restaurant located in the heart of KL, along Jalan Sultan Ismail. their interior really blew me away, incredibly luxurious and chic. you'd be surprised how spacious it is on the inside. i love how it is semi-open air! so when you're done with dinner, move that tush of yours to the long bar outside for a cocktail and enjoy the city breeze (well..if you're lucky) ;) owned by Maple Loo and husband, also owner of Bobbi's Pole Malaysia! yeap, the pole studio i'm learning at. a stunning woman whom i emulate <3

before i continue on this amazing dining experience, just a short story!

on our way to dinner, i had this tingling feeling that it wasn't just gonna be the three of us! YES i shamelessly was thinking whether Jasz and Kyean were gonna surprise me when we arrived! i know, i'm a greedy birthday girl thinking i would have 2 surprises, whateves :P i really love surprises okay! i guess being inquisitive really ruined my own surprise... yup, them two "surprised" me when we got there! wasn't too surprised but was extremely thrilled! so sorry it wasn't a total success loves but thank you for making the effort to make it a special night for me :)

okay carrying on :D

they sat us at a table for 2 (don't know why not 3 but yeah) and the first thing that came to mind was that "oh man, my bunnies aren't here???"

then.. out of nowhere my sweethearts came singing with 2 plates of BANANA CREAM PIE from Just Heavenly! YES I KNOW SO RANDOM!! that's our favorite dessert (kyean and i)! always wanted to take Jasz to have some but we never did! SO CUTE LA YOU TWO!

and of course the Gorgeous handmade fondant cake designed and made by auntie Siew Keng (she makes really delicious and pretty cakes according to your liking, not commercialized as she makes them in her kitchen :)). Thank you mommy! my mom said that the banana cream pies were intentional party packs for kyean and jasz to take home ^.^
